WHEN WILL PROF. SOLUDO TAKE OFF?(1)

By Tai Emeka Obasi

I have been reading and listening to HE Prof Chukwuma Soludo since be became the Governor-Elect. Believe me, almost every word from the professor of economics echoes beautiful music.

One of the areas that gladdens my heart is that #Nwamgbafor seems not interested in attacking/maligning his predecessor. Anambra people must know now, if they didn’t know before, that the worst thing that has happened to this great state since creation has been the manner HE Willie Obiano attacked and tried to maim the man who brought him to power. He completely distracted himself and ndi Anambra from positive achievements while chasing shadows of lies and propaganda, anchored on his retinue of media crazies all in the failed attempt to make an innocent man that assisted immensely in making him disappear into oblivion.

However, I have been a little disappointed that seven days after the inauguration of the man from Isuofia that he has not yet got his governing council completely in place and running.

When he named his Inauguration Committee of respectable individuals, I thought his full list of commissioners would have followed within 48 hours of his taking over. What was he doing within the four months that he resigned as Governor-Elect?

Does the new govervnor and his team fully appreciate the rot Anambra State he inherited is in? Is he in any way deceived that the airport, conference centre and such projects Obiano hastily embarked on to hoodwink ndi Anambra would cover up the quantum of mess Anambra was plunged into?

If Prof Soludo was ever in doubt of where we truly are, the slapping incident would have cleared it, more than anything else, on how low our dear state of very amiable individuals has degenerated. The manner the former First Lady traveled from her seat for her last official engagement, as a shameless abuser of office, to receive the disgrace of her life while her husband gaped helplessly, exposed to any reasonable mind how disrespecting the Obianos had been to over eight million people they had the bizarre privilege of overseeing for very regrettable eight years.

Our psyche as a people was exceptionally tormented. Our values as a people took emotional flight. In eight years, Obianos taught our youths that the wrong track was indeed the right way. By spending of over a billion of the money he inherited from his predecessor for worthwhile development to sponsor a documentary titled, The Inconsistencies Of A Man as a fulcrum of his mother of all witch-hunts to disgrace his predecessor, the man from Aguleri destroyed the apprehension of school children of what practical governance should look like.

Using the state media apparatus of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Television and Radio to feed unprintable lies to the hapless populace, Obiano brought back the crude and regrettable politcal practice his predecessor had very admirably banished from our curriculum.

May God never let Prof Soludo chase such shadows. May the former CBN governor never say a word of ridicule or disgrace against Obiano. Such regrettable rascality must be completely dumped in the past of Obiano days.

There’s work for Soludo and plenty of it. He hasn’t got one second to.waste if he is to truly succeed in turning around the misleading hands of the Obiano clock. He therefore has no choice but to hit the ground running.

Yes, our new govervnor is an eloquent and intelligent speaker and I love these qualities. But the press do too because he’s any day an interviewer’s delight. Here comes then the danger of being distracted. Every news editor will mandate his/her Awka correspondence to get interviews from this screen delight everyday. His Excellency must resist the temptation. He must talk less and work tirelessly. He’s familiarised enough with media shows. Now should be strictly business. We’d love to see his full team in a matter of hours from now.

Based on his mindset of patronising local quality, he must restructure ABS asap and use the station as his official mouthpiece. Unless in emergency and dire situations, I suggest he talks to the people once every month, take every month-end or beginning of it. A one-hour broadcast or live town meeting to tell his people what he is doing and intend to achieve. We were in the dark during Obiano’s days and it ended up he was derailing most of the time. Now, Anambra deserves to know where we’re headed.

I will stop for now to definitely follow up in coming days. For our new govervnor has a lot to do to return our values as a people.

May God help him and help Anambra State.
